Making Local Living Green!

Hello All,

It's looong overdue for an update so I desided to finally get wired in for a few to let you all know what's going on in and around the area. While we won't be organizing monthly meetups here at Rochester Green Living, we would love to still be a sounding board for any of your eco-themed events so please keep emailing them! I will try to do a better job posting events to the calendar as well. The warm weather is here and im sure many of you are ready to get out into the garden or start that project you have been thinking about all winter. I have been working on a few myself; including cutting down a few trees to make way for a new half acre pond (but a good friend recently gave me 50 Norway Spruce that I have planted in the past two weeks to help offset it). I really want to start an aquaponics setup as a sort of full circle fish hatchery/ food system for the pond. Hope to make that an event out here sometime in the near future. As for events, I am hoping to host another combined Green Drinks out here with Rochester, Buffalo and Batavia Residents. Last fall we had over 85 people come out to hear the great music, food, drinks and networking. Hope to be announcing more details on that soon so stay tuned. Here is an upcoming event you may want to attend:

  greendrinks greentopia2012

The event will be taking place at 6pm on May 17th at the Greentopia and Friends of the GardenAerial headquarters. Our office is located at 81 Browns Race, Rochester, NY 14618. Light snacks will be provided by Freshwise Catering and Sunnking will be auctioning off some of the electronics that they've collected throughout the year!

We have a limited amount of space so if you'd like to attend, please RSVP by contacting us at 585-287-5560 or sending an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

I will be posting more frequently as all the irons in the fire start to develop for 2012. Keep you comments, ideas and events coming!

Cheers,

Happy New Year everyone!

I can't believe we are half way through January already and with so many projects to plan out for 2012, time seems more and more precious. We at RGL, (Lindsay & I) have been discussing what possible direction(s) to go this year, with whom and when...talks are still ongoing but for now I think we both agree to keep the RGL site up as a continued resource for natural building, local sustainable business and low imact living. As for the meetups, I would recommend utilizing the lovely Romeo ladies and their exceptional organization of Rochester Green Drinks.  I do plan on hosting at least one or two natural building workshops this year and will be announcing them next month....im thinking cob oven, cordwood outhouse and/or cordwood guesthouse. If you have any ideas or think you would like to host a natural building event please contacts us! I do plan to keep adding people to the directory and try to keep up with local eco-related events on our calendar. More information will be posted over the next few weeks. Thank you all for your interest, support and knowledge over the past 5 years!

PS - Here is some new pics of the cordwood guesthouse; bed is finished and the fire keeps the place very toasty in the few 5 degree days we had here in WNY. Everything is holding up very nicely including the earthroof.

About Us

Our goal is to help lower the environmental impact of the homes and lives of those living in the greater Rochester area. To reach that goal we provide workshops in sustainability, promote local green events, provide a free local resource in sustainable information, and create connections to other green organizations throughout New York. We hope we will be the first stop on your journey to a deeper understanding of sustainability.
