August Meetup

E-mail Print PDF

Hello all,

Last month's meetup at the Bay Creek Paddling Center was a blast! There were only 3 of us there but it was the original 3 who have been there from the begining so we had fun, relaxing time. For less then $20 for kayak rental & an hour and a half paddle it was well worth it.

July has flown by waaaay too fast and with August starting tomorrow I wondering how fast the rest of the summer is going to fly by. Recently while researching online I came across the Natural Building Networks apprenticeship page http://nbnetwork.org/topic/events/apprenticeship. This is a GREAT resource to finding workshops in natural building of all kinds.....some even pay you! So starting Aug 2nd, I will be heading to South Carolina for a 2 weeks to help out on a strawbale build. I plan to make some postings & pictures of the progress as we go. The home is currently 60 or 70% finished with much of the work being inside the structure. The owner is going with 9" bales for all his interior walls and trying a few different plasters, can't wait. I hope this prompts more people to check out the forum and to come back often. Let me know your thoughts or questions.

So for this month's meetup I will not be able to plan anything but luckily there are a some really intersting events going on around town for all interests.

First, Green Drinks - every 3rd Thursday they hold the sustainable social libation event that is always well attended (more info at http://www.ceinfo.org/ugbn/ ).

About Us

Our goal is to help lower the environmental impact of the homes and lives of those living in the greater Rochester area. To reach that goal we provide workshops in sustainability, promote local green events, provide a free local resource in sustainable information, and create connections to other green organizations throughout New York. We hope we will be the first stop on your journey to a deeper understanding of sustainability.
